
Editorial Development Process for Longer Works
Initial review
- Initial read through and manuscript evaluation
- Discovery call (vision, tone, target audience, publication goals, etc.)
Here, we’ll determine whether we’re a good fit and what our framework will be going forward into phase 1.
COST: We’ll establish the terms of the contract and agree on a fee. At this time, I will require a partial retainer fee.
Developmental Phase 1
- Establishing basic priorities, framework and vision (call optional).
- Review and notes for developmental and structural edits.
- Recommendations will be in comments in track changes as well as summarized in email.
Developmental Phase 2
- Discuss potential edits / re-writes (call optional).
- Establish timeframe and strategy going forward into copy editing phase.
- Recommendations will be in comments in track changes as well as summarized in email.
Copy editing/proofreading
- 1-2 rounds with track changes.
- 1-2 rounds on final manuscript (galleys).

- Fees vary depending on text length and structure of project.

Editorial support for short pieces of content (Under 1000 words):
The editorial process for bloggers and copywriters typically will involve two to three rounds of revisions.
- Round 1: I’ll review your draft and offer developmental commentary, then I’ll send it back for discussion/approval/updates.
- Round 2: I’ll develop and polish it per (y)our preferences.
COST: We’ll establish a project-based fee and I will ask for half up front, half on delivery.
